mpc works, but it's hella slow. it's almost certainly due to something stupid i did either in the problem or in the code where i copy-paste something too much. or there's a parameter i didn't set. there are examples of other similar, but correct,  code i can run to compare and see where the limit is and what i did wrong. but the code is there and that's what's important now
